Activist Meryem Deris detained 2026-02-14 12:50:37   NEWS CENTER - Meryem Deris, a former political prisoner and activist living in the city of Kazerun, has been detained again.   Former political activist Meryem Deris was detained during a raid on her home in the city of Kazerun, located in Iran's Fars Province. According to published information, forces affiliated with the Ministry of Intelligence detained Meryem Deris during a raid on her home and took her to an unknown location. No official statement has been made regarding the reason for her detention or the charges against her.   She was detained in 2022   Meryem Deris was previously detained on October 15, 2022, and released on bail on November 2 of the same year. She was later sentenced to 22 months and 17 days in prison.   Meryem Deris, who was sent to prison on August 3, 2024, to serve her sentence, had her prison sentence converted to an “open prison” in January 2025 and was released. However, on March 1, 2025, following an appeal by the prosecutor's office and the security unit handling the case, she was sent back to Adilabad Central Prison in Shiraz to serve the remainder of her sentence.   Meryem Deris was released from Adilabad Prison on September 24, 2025, after completing her sentence. Official authorities have not yet made a statement regarding her re-arrest.
