AMED - TJA activist Arzu Karaman said that Turkey's attacks against Rojava target the democratic governance model established by the women's revolution in 2014. Arzu Karaman stated that this system established in Rojava is a need not only for the people of the region but for everyone and said the following: "We need to protect this system."
On 27 November 2024, the attacks on Northern and Eastern Syria continue with increasing intensity. In recent days, a historic resistance is being shown against Turkey's attack on the Tişrîn Dam with UCAVs. The Kurdish people, who have been on guard here for days, continue their resistance with halay and zılgıt against all massacres and injuries.
Tevgera Jinen Azad (TJA) activist Arzu Karaman made an evaluation about the attacks in Northern and Eastern Syria and what can be done to end the war.
‘We need to wage a struggle with our people in Rojava’
Stating that there is a ‘tremendous’ resistance in Northern and Eastern Syria, Arzu Karaman emphasised that ‘war crimes’ are committed with the attacks and said: "Both the ISIS mentality, which organises itself under the name of HTS, and Turkey bomb civilians and this is done openly. This is called a ‘war crime’ by international nations. A crime against humanity is being committed against the people of Rojava in front of the eyes of the whole world. As a result of these attacks, journalists, theatre actors, cultural friends, children, women and the elderly are openly bombed.
As Kurdish people, we need to speak out against these attacks and massacres wherever we are and wage a struggle with our people in Rojava. At the same time, international powers need to say ‘stop’ to these attacks of Turkey. Syria is a place where many peoples live together. It is not right to impose a single form of government there. The peoples had formed their own democratic form of government on their own initiative. In 2014, there was a tremendous form of government put forward by the Kurdish people. Capitalist powers also want a monist form of government there. However, this is not possible, a form of government must be established there as soon as possible in the way the peoples want to be governed."
‘The system established in Rojava is a system we all need’
Arzu Karaman drew attention to the fact that the victimisation experienced in Palestine is also experienced in Northern and Eastern Syria, but there is silence. Arzu Karaman said about this silence: "We invite everyone to be conscientious. The Kurdish people have proved to the whole world that they have a democratic form of government. Since the Kurdish people do not accept any capitalist system of nation states, they are trying to destroy the system created by the Kurds because it is contrary to them. They want to eliminate the existence of the Kurdish people in the Middle East and the form of government they have adopted. For this reason, the states do not keep silent about what is happening there, but the peoples should not remain silent and should raise their voices. The system established in Rojava is a system that we all need. Therefore, we need to protect this system."
‘We women will protect our gains’
Arzu Karaman concluded her words as follows: ‘A women's revolution was realised in Rojava in 2014’: "With this, many women's gains were put into practice. The practice of ‘equal society’ that we advocate was put into practice. There, women and men took part in every institution equally. One of the targets here is the women's model built there. They do not want this model to spread to other countries. That is why women are targeted the most. We are aware that the attack in Rojava is an attack on the women's revolution and women's achievements. We, as women, will protect our gains that we have achieved as a result of very heavy costs everywhere."
